How Project Coaching WorksDoug Motel’s Project Coaching practice provides highly effective brainstorming skills, along with accountability to facilitate the completion of creative or business projects. If you have a specific goal in mind or even if you need assistance in clarifying what you want to accomplish, Project Coaching can help. Through weekly telephone calls*, usually 30 minutes in length, Doug will help you to clarify the mission and purpose of your project, break it down into realistic “bite sized bits”, schedule the to-do items and milestones then lead you through the process of completing or revising them. Doug uses a very simple to use, web based project management software called Base Camp (cost is included in the coaching fee) to organize your actions steps and deadlines so that you can monitor your process from the internet at any time. To see a screen shot of the Base Camp application click here. * Some businesses may require more than one call per week. Group coaching with team members who are at different locations may require use of a call-in bridge line at no extra cost. Why Project Coaching WorksProject Coaching works. Individuals or teams who are ready to create a new project or take a current project to the next level, see immediate results from project coaching. Accountability The main reason that having a project coach works is accountability from an outsider. Simply put: people are 10 times more likely to actually complete a task when they have an appointment with someone who is going to ask them if they did it or not! Powerful Listening As an accomplished writer, Doug is sensitive to the ebb and flow of energy that is the journey of taking on a new project. His experience managing his own creative projects and the projects of others has given him a deep understanding of some of the internal barriers that may need a fresh perspective in order to be removed or moved through. Who is Project Coaching for?Individuals Coaching is for people with healthy self-esteem who have a project or result that they are ready to bring forth. The ideal candidate is someone who recognizes the need for an extra bit of support in staying motivated and focused in order to push through to the next level.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHow is this different than Life Coaching? What happens in a typical Coaching session? How long does it take? I have supportive friends, why do I need coaching? How do I know that you won't steal my idea? There are several of us working on this project; can we be coached as a group? Where are you located? How is this different than Life Coaching? Doug began a successful Life Coaching practice more than 10 years ago. Over the years he discovered that his experience as a project manager blended well with his experience as a Life Coach and so he geared his practice into a new direction. Project Coaching differs from Life Coaching only in that there is a stronger focus on moving forward with specific goals in mind. Like Life Coaching, some of the session time might be about “beingness” not simply “doingness” but the focus keeps coming back to completing to-do items and meeting milestones. What happens in a typical Coaching session? All sessions are uniquely tailored to a client’s particular needs, and incorporate their own philosophical viewpoint. The coaching process begins with a 1 to 2 hour "intake" session, in which Doug and the client(s) design the coaching relationship. The first part of this session is an opportunity to define the project’s goals, priorities, mission and strategy. The second part is to co-create a project plan with key milestones and target dates. You will then begin weekly check-ins (usually 30 minutes) to assure your momentum and focus by looking at your progress, brainstorming on action steps, setting weekly goals, and reconnecting to the inspiration that got you to dream up the project in the first place. How long does it take? As long as it takes to finish the project or as long as you feel the project needs a coach. It is suggested that you make a minimum three-month commitment, but this depends on the nature of the project. I have supportive friends, why do I need coaching? If you are being as productive as you want to be then you don't need coaching; but some of the most talented and prolific people utilize coaching. The Oprahs of the world are as productive as they are because they recognize that they cannot reach their goals without support. How do I know that you won't steal my idea? Doug signs a non-disclosure agreement with you. You may share as much or as little about the content of your project as you deem important (often the details of the project are not essential for creating a project plan). Doug does not expect to be credited as a collaborator on your project. There are several of us working on this project; can we be coached as a group? Yes, you may. All team members must start by having one private session (this allows a more candid understanding of the working dynamics), but the weekly follow-ups should include all team members. Where are you located? Doug’s office is located in Manhattan, but sessions are held over the telephone and can have been conducted from all over the world.
